Chakras are an ancient energy system that emerged in the writings of the Vedas, ancient Hindu philosophical texts that were written between 1500 and 500 B.C.E. Chakra means “wheel” in Sanskrit, and refers to energy centers in the body that are thought to be spinning disks of energy. They are located along the spine, from the tailbone to the crown of the head, and correspond to bundles of nerves, major organs, and areas of our energetic body that affect our emotional and physical well-being.

This seven week series will explore each of the chakras, starting with the root chakra and continuing up to the crown. Each week of this class will include hatha yoga and meditation practices that focus on one of the chakras, and discussion about the attributes and internal organs associated with that area of the body, as well as strategies to open or fortify that energy center. The journey will progress week-by-week as follows:
~ Jan 6 - Root chakra (Mūlādhāra)
~ Jan 13 - Sacral chakra (Svādhiṣṭhāna)
~ Jan 27 - Solar plexus chakra (Maṇipūra)
~ Feb 3 - Heart chakra (Anāhata)
~ Feb 10 - Throat chakra (Viśuddha)
~ Feb 17 - Third eye chakra (Ājñā)
~ Feb 24 - Crown chakra (Sahasrāra)
