Community Acupuncture

How do you make regular acupuncture treatments affordable and accessible,
while still allowing the acupuncturist to earn a fair wage?

Community Acupuncture!

Instead of each client taking up an entire private room, a small group of people can be treated in the same space -- and that keeps costs down for client and practitioner alike.
This model mirrors how acupuncture was originally and traditionally practiced, and how it is still practiced in many Asian countries.

What Does Community
Acupuncture Look Like?

  • You’ll arrive at your scheduled time and complete a brief intake form, before getting settled into a comfortable reclining or restorative pose on a yoga mat.

  • Our acupuncturist will come and check in and administer the treatment, and then you get to rest for 30+ minutes!

  • You will remain fully clothed and needles will only be inserted in points that can be easily accessed — i.e. arms, hands, lower legs, feet, head and neck.

  •  We won’t disturb you while you rest, but give a wave when you’re ready to have the needles removed. You’re welcome to stay and relax in our lobby with a cup of tea before you leave.

What are the Benefits of
Community Acupuncture?

  • Friends and family can come together and receive treatment at the same time

  • Attendees may find it comforting to be in community

  • Demystifies the process by bringing it out into the open

  • Collective healing can result in a more powerful experience for each individual (just like sharing a yoga practice!)

Meet Our Acupuncturist

  Erin Langley, LAc, DAcCHM

  • Erin is a Licensed Acupuncturist (LAc) in the state of Maryland and holds a Doctorate of Acupuncture with a Chinese Herbal Medicine Specialization (DAcCHM) from the Maryland University of Integrative Health (MUIH). She has worked for more than a decade in maternal and women’s health and is deeply committed to providing outstanding holistic care, especially for women and girls, from puberty through menopause. Erin found her way to acupuncture as a patient at the age of 40 when, after working in a high pressure marketing role for many years, she developed an injury she was told would have to be corrected through significant surgery. Instead, she decided to try everything else first, and was amazed by how quickly acupuncture helped her get back to normal. Before long, Erin’s curiosity to understand how and why it worked led her to enroll in MUIH’s graduate program. She moved her private practice, Soapstone Valley Acupuncture & Herbal Medicine, to Rockville in 2024.

  • Erin is a careful and thoughtful listener who is passionate about taking the mystery out of acupuncture, and enjoys treating people who are new to the practice. She combines a gentle needling style with simple breathing practices to support people who may be feeling nervous or apprehensive, because she knows the idea of needles can be quite scary for some people. She works with her clients and moves at their pace, ensuring they feel safe and comfortable throughout the process. In her private practice, Erin also incorporates additional treatment elements such as herbal medicine, Gua Sha and cupping.

FAQs

  • While we recommend bringing water and a yoga mat, you don’t have to bring anything — we will provide mats, blankets, bolsters, and guidance to help you get comfortable.

If you want to bring a favorite pillow or blankets from home, go for it!
If you want to bring an eye mask, ear buds or ear plugs, go for it!
Please do whatever you need to do to help you relax during your treatment.

  • Please do NOT wear perfume, as others may be sensitive to strong scents.

You will remain fully clothed and needles will only be inserted in points that can be easily accessed — i.e. arms, hands, lower legs, feet, head and neck. You may wish to wear looser, comfortable clothing, or a tank top (etc) if you want Erin to be able to access your knee, elbow, shoulder, etc.

  • Erin takes insurance in her private practice (https://www.soapstoneacu.com/insurance), but unfortunately this offering is not eligible for insurance coverage at this time.

  • Yes! While there will be other people in the room with you, you’ll be spaced out and won’t hear much noise or talking from around you.

  • We ask everyone to speak quietly and keep talking to a minimum. We'll have gentle music playing to create a relaxing, soothing environment, or you can bring your own ear buds and listen to music or a podcast, or just take a nap! If you’re especially sensitive to noise, you could bring ear plugs.
