Support and accelerate your 2023 intentions by learning how to regulate your breath!
While prana is commonly translated as breath or respiration, it is that and so much more: our life force, vital energy, and sometimes used interchangeably with the spirit or soul. Our breath is a primary source of prana, and learning to regulate our breathing (pranayama) can boost energy levels, lower stress, and create a state of balance that promotes our health and well-being.
In this workshop, Ari Rubens will lead you through accessible movements and numerous pranayama/breathing techniques, to invigorate and focus, and calm and relax the mind and body. All participants will receive guidance to develop a personalized routine for home practice.
Ari Rubens is a yoga teacher, personal trainer, and musician. His mission is to co-create an empowered world by leading adventures into healing. Ari is passionate about integrating breathwork, movement, and sound into his workshops. He's originally from Israel, traveled extensively throughout the world, and brings his diverse life experience into his sessions. Ari enjoys spending time with his dog Bindi, surfing, and making new connections.

Did you know research is now showing that yoga can improve bone density and even reverse osteoporosis, making us less vulnerable to falls and fractures? In fact, with just a 12 minute yoga practice per day, we may be able to help prevent the onset of osteoporosis or osteopenia!
Join Nancy for a Hatha yoga practice of poses that are especially effective in building bone strength, and gain a deeper understanding of bone health and how yoga can prevent and reverse bone loss. This workshop is based in part on the pioneering research (including a 10-year research study) on yoga for osteoporosis by Dr. Loren Fishman, with whom Nancy has studied, earning his Yoga for Low-Back Pain Teacher Certification.
No prior yoga experience necessary! This workshop is appropriate for those new to yoga and experienced yoga practitioners, people with osteoporosis or osteopenia, and those who want to prevent it.

"Yoga does not change pain. Practicing Yoga leads to changes in the person with pain." (Pearson, 2010, p. 53)
Chronic pain is defined as pain that lasts for 3 months or more. It can be a debilitating condition, affecting the daily work and life activities for over 50 million adults in the United States -- in 2021, the CDC estimated that 1 in 5 Americans were suffering from chronic pain.
Chronic pain is complex; it can affect us both physically and psychologically, and these effects may compound to further impact, reinforce and intensify our pain and suffering. But our relationship to pain can change for the better, through the therapeutic practice of yoga.
Lisa Danahy is an E-RYT 500 and Certified Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT), with an MS in Yoga Therapy from MUIH. Join her for a workshop of gentle movement, breathing, meditation and inquiry, to:
- relieve pain in the upper and lower body;
- learn strategies to balance the nervous system;
- explore principles of pain sensitization and safe activation; and
- practice meditation and deep relaxation to reduce anxiety and improve resilience.

Sunday, January 7th from 1:00-3:00pm
with Sarah Fishman
Cost: $35 by by Dec 31; $40 as of Jan 1 and beyond
HYC Members' 15% discount applies
Offered In-Studio Only (requests for virtual participation from experienced students will be considered on a case-by-case basis; please email sarah@thehappyyogi.com to inquire).
Open to students/yoga teachers who have at least 6 months of experience practicing yoga, and who are free of any serious wrist, neck or shoulder injuries.
When practiced safely, inversions can:
~ relieve skeletal compression;
~ alleviate swelling in the lower body;
~ have positive influence on the cardiovascular, lymphatic, nervous, and endocrine systems; and
~ alter our mental, emotional and energetic states toward greater clarity and vitality, by redistributing the creative energy of the second chakra (found in the pelvis) toward the heart and brain.
Whether you love inversions, or are curious-but-nervous about them, join Sarah for a master class dedicated to being upside-down!
This workshop will include a brief discussion about the energetics, anatomy and safety factors of various inversions, and a vinyasa flow warm-up to strengthen and stretch key areas of the body in order to safely prepare for asanas like L-at-the-wall, handstand and forearm balance, and shoulder stand. Everyone who wishes will receive hands-on assistance for kicking up, and those already kicking up on their own will receive tips for (eventually!) moving their inversions away from the wall.
Please note: Online Memberships and class passes may not be used for enrollment sessions or workshops, separate purchase is required.
Happy Yogi Cooperative Members receive the following discounts:
30% OFF of in-person enrollment sessions
15% OFF of workshops (excludes fundraisers)
Many of the events on this page will also be live-streamed for those who prefer to practice online via Zoom; memberships and class passes MAY be used.
